This study focuses on media literacy education in mainland China with a historical review, based on document analysis, and try clarifying the origins, conferences, higher education and press of media literacy education. We found that the development of media literacy education had to face difficulties and challenges. It could be listed as follows: basic principles of discipline should be clearly shown; low localization and lack of social support; uneven geographical distribution of educational resources; ignoring the role of family for media literacy education.
