Research Seminar: Digital media literacies in formal and informal contexts

Join leading international and national digital media literacy researchers as they share empirical data and findings from a variety of their latest research projects in formal and informal contexts with a focus on children and young people using digital media.
Julian Sefton-Green is an independent consultant and researcher working in education and the cultural and creative industries. He is currently Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Media and Communication, London School of Economics and a research associate at the University of Oslo. He is working on several international research projects.
Stuart Poyntz is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver. His research interests include children, youth and media cultures. He is the Primary investigator for a SSHRC funded research project entitled, Youth Digital Media Ecologies in Canada.
Catherine Beavis is Professor of Education, School of Education and Professional Studies at Griffith University. Her current Australian Research Council Project is Serious Play: using digital games in school to promote literacy and learning in the twenty first century.
Christina Spurgeon is Senior Lecturer in the School of Media, Entertainment and Creative Arts in the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT. She is Chief Investigator on the ARC Linkage Project Community Uses of Co-creative Media.
Ellie Rennie is Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Swinburne University Institute for Social Research. Chief Investigator on the ARC Linkage Project Home Internet in Remote Indigenous Communities, Ellie is also an associate researcher on Youthworx, which focuses on young people’s use of digital media in community settings.
Michael Dezuanni is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education and Creative Industries Faculty at QUT. He is Chief Investigator on the ARC Linkage Projects Digital Learning and Print Literacy and Serious Play: using digital games in school to promote literacy and learning in the twenty first century.
Pete Fraser spent many years as Head of Media Studies at Long Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge, before joining the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice as a doctoral researcher in 2010.
Ben Goldsmith is a Senior Research Fellow in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation. His recent work focuses on media policy and the Australian Convergence Review.
Sandra Gattenhof is an Associate Professor and Head of Drama in the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT. Sandra’s recent work has focused on the use of iPads for creativity and literacy development in culturally diverse and low SES community Kindergartens.
