The following sessions were particular relevant from the perspective of media literacy:
– Opening speeches by Roberto Viola (European Commission – DG CNECT) and by Aidan White (Ethical Journalist Network)
– Workshop on tools to analyse contemporary propaganda by Renée Hobbs;
– Plenary session on “Media Literacy and Media education in a changing media landscape – Who are the key players and what are their motivations? Speakers include Alison Preston (Head of Media Literacy Research, Ofcom, UK), Margaret Boribon (European Newspaper Publishers’ Association), Emmanuelle Machet (European Platform of Regulatory Authorities) and Nathalie Labourdette (European Broadcasting Union);
– Workshop on “Media literacy in practice” with Stéphane Hoebeke (RTBF), Jennifer Fleming (California State University, USA), and María Gatón Fraile (ICmedianet, Spain);
– Workshop on “European and global actions to support media literacy, strengthen diversity and fight radicalisation”, with Jordi Torrent (United Nations Alliance of Civilisations), Shahin Abbasov (Council of Europe) and Claire Morvan (European Schoolnet & eTwinning).
– Propaganda, Lies & Videotape: What can schools do to combat radicalisation amongst students? – Roundtable.
This conference was co-financed by the European Commission.
