UNESCO actively works in the field of media as it aims to provide critical knowledge and analytical tools, empowering media consumers to function as autonomous and rational citizens, and enabling them to critically make use of the media.
The proliferation of mass media has brought about decisive changes in human communication processes and behavior. Media education pursues a goal to empower citizens by providing them with the competencies, attitudes and skills necessary to comprehend media functions.
