The importance of media education has been gradually recognized worldwide, as the different stakeholders have become aware of the new challenges developed by the need to build “Knowledge Societies”. Mapping Media Education Policies in the World is a report in progress as well as a diagnostic tool. The contributors of this global mapping project, all recognized in their field, take into consideration issues, challenges and outcomes, while pointing towards constructive recommendations. The editors’ aim has been to produce an inspirational guide that could help to implement and evaluate policy in countries that would want to establish their own media education framework. This report testifies to the firm belief that media education holds the potential of reducing the disconnects and divides between old and new media, ultimately reaching towards the goals of the Millennium Declaration, especially the eradication of illiteracy.
