This article analyses video games’ future.
The author narrates a bit of her personal experience with video games and how she was threatened several times when she was invited to speak about the negative, often sexist, ways in which women are portrayed in games, among other things, in universities and conferences.
Afterwards she talks about the gaming culture and how games have often reinforced a sexist message, casting men as heroes and relegating women to the roles of damsels, victims or hyper-sexualized playthings. However, she explains that there’s a new reality: video games are maturing, evolving and becoming more diverse, more open and more girl-friendly.
