Davis Q&A: Time has come to drastically improve media gender ratios
The presence of far more male on-screen characters than females is so ingrained in people’s minds as normal that the ratio has changed little in the last several decades, Academy Award-winning actor Geena Davis explains in this interview. “We’re training children to see girls and women as not taking up half the space in the world, if this is the image that is reflected to them. And also, with the limited and negative portrayals of the female characters that are there, we’re teaching them that women and girls are not as important as men and boys,” Davis warns.
