Community Projects in the Mathare Valley Slum of Nairobi

June 10, 2010, Filed Under: Media & Information Literacy, Resources, Youth Media

Country: Kenya
Language: English
Source: http://www.mwelu.org
Author: Mwelu
Link: http://www.mwelu.org/film-production/

n the film production programme at The Mwelu Foundation we work to train our members in film-making skills by creating documentaries, dramas, docudramas, soaps and slide shows. We train our members in camera work, sound techniques, film directing and producing, lighting and makeup and also basic computer editing skills. We use the films to highlight the problems within Mathare, to offer insights into life in the slum and to look for positive alternatives to the usual ghetto life. We hope this training will result in a change of culture in Mathare.
