True Star Foundation is a nonprofit multimedia organization that offers Chicago teens innovative out-of-school activities. The organization consists of eight programs that employ 150 student apprentices and seven adult instructors who collectively produce a 44-page quarterly publication as well as teen events. True Star was born from a needs assessment completed by urban youth in Chicago. The results overwhelmingly indicated youth needed employment, basic literary skills, professional development, and wanted to be heard by their peers and the community at large. Also, one of the products is the “True Star” magazine created by teens. Its goal is to inform, entertain and educate. True Star serves as the voice of urban youth and the issues they face in our ever-changing world.
