Service For Peace-Sierra Leone (SFP-SL) is a voluntary, community based, international and non-profit making organisation that operates in Sierra Leone and has its branches in other countries of which the Africa head Quarter is based in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The organisation was established in order to achieve lasting peace and improve the quality of the deprived young people, their families and communities to meet their basic needs.
However, it also strives to increase their ability to participate in and benefit from their societies through fostering relationships as a way of increasing understanding and unity among peoples of different culture both locally and internationally and that promote the rights and interests of young people throughout the world. Our major areas of work had been Sexual Reproductive Health Rights for young people, gender education and advocacy, human rights and Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV).
Among our strategies in achieving these, were the fostering of partnerships and networking among organisations such as the National Movement for Emancipation and Progress-Sierra Leone (NaMEP-SL) and the Men’s Association for Gender Equality-Sierra Leone (MenEngage Network-Sierra Leone). However, we have been working with NaMEP to address Harmful Traditional Practices particularly Female Genital Mutilation or Cutting (FGM/C) which is fuelling Child marriage in Sierra Leone and the MenEngage Network Sierra Leone to engage men and boys in addressing GBV reduction with specific focus on GBV laws and Policies with support from UN Trust Fund/Sonke Gender Justice Network, South Africa.
