MediaWise (formerly PressWise), is an independent charity, set up in 1993 by ‘victims of media abuse’, supported by concerned journalists, media lawyers, and politicians in the UK. We operate on the principle that press freedom is a responsibility exercised by journalists on behalf of the public, and that the public has a right to know when the media publish inaccurate information.
MediaWise employs media professionals with experience in all parts of the industry, and has a reputation for its imaginative approach to tackling media ethics issues through consultancies, projects and training. MediaWise is currently working on a variety of projects in partnership with media professionals and non-governmental organizations aiming to improve the state of journalism. These projects are: Journalism and Public Trust, Refugees, Asylum-Seekers and Media (RAM), Children and the Media, Suicide and the Media, and Health and the Media.
