The Media Education Foundation produces and distributes documentary films and other educational resources to inspire critical reflection on the social, political and cultural impact of American mass media.
The mission of the Media Education Foundation (MEF) is to respond to the challenge posed by the radical and accelerating corporate threat to democracy. Since its founding in 1991 by University of Massachusetts Communication professor and media scholar Sut Jhally, MEF has grown to become the nation’s leading producer and distributor of educational videos designed to inspire students and others to reflect critically on the structure of the media industry and the content it produces.
With free educational resources addressing a range of political, economic and socio-cultural issues, MEF provides students, educators, activists and the general public with the tools required to promote the media’s expression of democratic principles of freedom, fairness and social justice.
