The Media Education Centre (MEC) for children and youth is founded as no-political, no-profit NGO, gathering civilest willing to work for aims of scientific and professional researches about influence and application of media in no-formal education of children through media literacy, and in accordance with human and children rights on access to information, rights to preservation of cultural, national and religious diversity and the right to participate in media.
In order to succeed in realization of the mentioned aims, MEC is dealing with:
– organization, individually/independently or together with other organizations, of meetings of professionals, consultations or symposiums on media literacy for children and youth, as well as of a use of the media in taking care of cultural, national and religious diversity, human and children rights;
– collecting, investigating and working on scientific and professional literature of the field;
– participation in activities in connection with the promotion of the media for the children and youth and the media literacy;
– participation in no-formal and no-profit education of the children and youth for the use of digital media technologies in order to be able to preserve cultural, national and religious differences, cultural and historical inheritance and the right to have access to the MEDIA information and the right to participation in MEDIA for children and youth;
– cooperation with the professional associations and other organizations from the domicile country and abroad that are working on basic conditions for wide (massive) application of the media literacy, media education, TV programme and audio video communications and the cohesive participation in media projects for children and youth all over the world.
Members-founders before joining the Center, and later within MEC, were doing their best to help children and youth from Serbia during the hard time of isolation and poverty to maintain as much as possible contacts with fellows from all over the world.
Great help to our efforts came from CIFEJ, CICT/IFTC-UNESCO, International Clearinghouse on Children, Youth and Media, Balkan Trust for Democracy, European Commission and other international organizations. They all gave us precious support that enabled us to be prepared to follow the trends of media literacy for children and youth and no-formal education by means of media. That established for us opportunity to give our contribution to development of global network for better communication, cooperation and work on mutual projects for children and youth from all over the globe.

3rd INTERNATIONAL YOUTH MEDIA SUMMIT (IYMS) is a summit for young filmmakers and young diplomats from high schools, universities and media programs all over the world. Target age group for participants is 15 to 22 years.

This year Summit has focus on:
Intercultural Media Education,
Media Literacy for all,
Education in Media, Information and Communication technologies and
Developing possibilities of film, TV and ICT audio video communication
like strong tool for global peace, democratization and better future for young generation. Especially we would like to developing Balkan Youth Network and forming of the Balkan-European International Team for permanent work on Intercultural and Transcultural Media Education.
The 3rd annual IYMS-SEVEN VOICES IN TIME Summit will be held August 19th to 28th, 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia. The young participant’s could be candidates as Student Filmmakers and Student Diplomats. The outcomes of the Summit are Public Service Announcements (PSAs) filmed and edited by student filmmakers as well as researched and prepared by the student diplomats.
Participants of the Summit will be 80 young people (15-22) from all around the world with 40 adults-Teachers, Media Educators or Media Coach from all continents. For us is very important that we will have youth from different regions, different cultural, confessional and traditional background, regions in crisis (Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kenya, Somalia, Lesotho, Bangladesh…) together with young people from developed countries (Great Britain, Sweden, Norway, United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Greece…) and all Balkan Countries. This will give us possibility of application in media education Intercultural Dialogue and Intercultural Education during Summit.
The program of the Summit is exclusively designed to provide Skill and Professional Development as well as familiarizing the young participants with codes and standards of Media. Also, provide media education platform for young adults to express and present the seven significant issues relating to them globally: Racism, Violence, Poverty, Youth Empowerment, Women Empowerment, Health and Environment.
Summit will work on improving the quality of media education for youth through the diversification of contents and methods and the promotion of universally shared values. The results of the Summit will promote media education as a fundamental right on media space for youth in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Also, we will promote experimentation, innovation and the diffusion and sharing of information and best practices as well as policy dialogue in media education like strong tool for building better future, peace and democracy.
Young delegates will be in the SEVEN Groups: Racism, Violence, Poverty, Youth Empowerment, Women Empowerment, Health and Environment. They will prepare declarations and Public Service Announcements on the seven main issues of the Summit.
