Media Education Project investigates the role of media, information and communication technologies (ICTs) within (and for) Canadian education systems. Our assessment begins with an inquiry into current discourse that considers education theory, cultural diversity, economic inequity, and other related digital divides and the potential impacts on media education. With particular attention to educators’ experiences, education practices and within the context of the province of Ontario’s mandated media curricula, our mission is to inquire how Canadian teachers and students are engaging with media and ICTs in the classroom, and how an engagement with ICTs functions within a broader context of teaching and learning. By following a Knowledge Exchange Model for research, Media Education Project engages educators and other stakeholders in dialogue to translate and mobilize knowledge about critical issues, best practices, and other teacher resources to promote sets of shared standards and educational outcomes, active digital citizenship, and social interactions among various education communities. To support the research participants the project designs and circulates relevant Open Educational Resources (OERs), which are shared through our digital learning commons. In this manner, our media research repository directly and immediately delivers results to key audiences, targets, and constituencies.
