Researchers Dr Manuel Pinto and Sara Pereira, from the Communication and Society Research Centre of the University of Minho, visited the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) on 19 and 20 November to collaborate on research projects.
Among topics covered at the conference were a current overview on the progress of the EMEDUS project, together with researchers from the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación of the UAB, and a review of the bibliography. Furthermore, the research group from the University of Minho reported on the development of Workpackage 5 of this project, dedicated to research in media literacy and the inclusion of disadvantaged social groups.
The incorporation of new documents to the EMEDUS database, regarding the social inclusion of groups at risk, was one of the actions carried out by the University of Minho in the latter stage of the conference. Methodological procedures and proposals for new sources to incorporate in the research were also discussed during the meeting.
Further cooperation between the University of Minho and the UAB were also discussed with respect to courses and initiatives on media literacy in the professional field within the framework of the UNESCO Chair.
The researchers from the University of Minho also participated in a meeting with the research group of the Department of Communication and Education from the UAB on November 20. Pinto and Pereira gave a presentation on behalf of their research group to their colleagues of the UAB. There they mentioned their recent publications and gave a contextualization of Media Education in Portugal from the point of view of the principal actors; their experiences and results.
