What is the Princeton University Summer Journalism Program? We welcome about 25 high school students from low-income backgrounds every summer to Princeton's campus for an intensive, 10-day seminar on journalism. The program's goal is to diversify college and professional newsrooms by encouraging outstanding students from low-income backgrounds to pursue careers in journalism. Energizing social inclusion through youth-produced media will spotlight positive outcomes of including and encouraging youth production of media in formal and informal educational settings. Jordi Torrent, Project Manager of the Media Literacy Programs of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), will coordinate the conference with Lewis Freeman from Fordham University’s Department of Communication and Media Studies. The conference will provide an opportunity to showcase and discuss youth-produced media and the work of New York-based youth media organizations.
