MBABANE – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through a newly- formed Innovators Association of Swaziland (IAS), has introduced a national competition for Swazi youth innovators to design, create and innovate development solutions for the country. Such innovative solutions will be targeted at various sectors including information and communication technology (ICT), Music, Arts, Health, Education and Agriculture.
The competition was officially launched by UNDP’s Deputy Resident Representative (DRR), Kabiru Nasidi at the UNDP Headquarters in Mbabane in September 2014. The competition was open to Swazis below the age of 35 who could come up with ideas that were unique, creative, usable, replicable, living beyond the pilot phase and addressing social challenges. The competition was open to submissions from innovators for a one-month period beginning on September 25. By the closing date of the competition, 25 October 2014, UNDP had received 84 submissions out of the 171 innovators who had registered for the competition.
