APRIL 24 – 26, 2009 / The Annenberg School for Communication – University of Pennsylvania
Purpose and format:
This
conference will serve as a space in which the organizers of successful
models in community media developed by Latino communities from Texas,
California, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, New York, etc will present and
analyze ways in which they have used communication media in their home
towns, as an effort to share experiences and models with each other in
order to mutually enrich and learn from each community’s initiatives.
OBJECTIVES
To
learn about successful initiatives in community media, (printed, radio
or audiovisual) that Latino immigrant communities in the u.s. have
developed in order to improve the level and quality of life of their
communities; as an effort to facilitate the exercise of their rights,
self expression, and as a tool for community organizing and the
promotion of equity and non discrimination.
To
initiate the establishment of a network of organizations which create
media communication projects produced by Latino immigrants. The
Annenberg School for Communication of the University of Pennsylvania
could serve as an advisor to such an initiative.
